How Discogs fees work

Discogs charges one fee: 9% of the item price plus shipping, bounded by a minimum and a maximum that depend on your selling currency. Because payment runs through PayPal, PayPal’s merchant fee is taken from the same payment. Sellers used to be invoiced monthly; since the October 2026 PayPal integration the fee is collected at checkout.

AUD0.15200

Worked example

A $2,400 box set with $40 shipping: 9% of $2,440 would be $219.60, so the $150 maximum applies. PayPal at 3.49% plus $0.49 on $2,440 is $85.65. You receive $2,204.35. The cap means the effective Discogs rate on expensive items falls well below 9%.

Not included

  • Tax on the fee (VAT, GST, JCT) where applicable to your location.
  • Refund adjustments: Discogs returns the selling fee and its tax on refunds, but PayPal’s transaction fee is not returned.

Questions sellers ask

What is the Discogs selling fee?
9% of the item price and the shipping charged, with a minimum of $0.10 and a maximum of $150 in US dollars; other currencies have their own limits (CAD and AUD 0.15 to 200, GBP and EUR 0.10 to 150). Listing is free.
How is the fee collected?
Since 29 October 2026 the fee is deducted automatically from the buyer's PayPal payment at checkout as a partner fee, with any applicable tax on the fee. There are no more monthly selling-fee invoices.
Does Discogs charge payment processing?
No. PayPal's own fee is taken from the gross payment and goes to PayPal; Discogs publishes no rate for it. The calculator starts with PayPal's standard commercial rate for your country and lets you change it to your own rate.
How much does Discogs take on a $30 record with $5 shipping?
The selling fee is 9% of $35.00, or $3.15. PayPal at 3.49% plus $0.49 takes a further $1.71, so about $30.14 of the $35.00 reaches you.
Is VAT charged on the fee?
Where it applies: UK and EU VAT, Australian and New Zealand GST and Japanese consumption tax are collected on the selling fee itself. The calculator shows the fee before those taxes.
